The initiative in memory of Oury Jalloh was founded immediately after the death by fire of Oury Jalloh in the detention cell No. 5 of the police station Dessau-Roßlau on January 7, 2005.
From the very beginning, the investigations of the Dessau public prosecutor’s office in the case were aimed at proving “…that the theoretical possibility existed in any case that he (Oury Jalloh) himself had arranged the killing” – as the senior senior public prosecutor Folker Bittmann put it at the first and only press conference of his office on the “tragic event” of the arson murder of Oury Jalloh.
The investigations were and are still being deliberately delayed, restricted or blocked. Evidence was actively manipulated, witnesses were put under pressure and facts were covered up. A structurally racist political system and the racist consensus within society made this and many other murders of the political system possible in the first place. Police violence is covered by politics and state investigative bodies, the judiciary denies the racism of the institutions and their officials and thus follows the politically prescribed guidelines of a constitution-preventing reason of state.
The initiative in memory of Oury Jalloh has accompanied the manipulative investigations from the very beginning with its own expert investigations, since the public prosecutor’s office and judges have continuously refused to determine the actual circumstances of Oury Jalloh’s death without any results. Thus, the opening of a judicial criminal proceeding was only made possible by the result of a second, donation-financed autopsy, after the public prosecutor’s office rejected requests by the family’s lawyers for x-ray examinations to exclude bony injuries on Oury Jalloh’s body with reference to the “already known cause of death”. This autopsy revealed several bony injuries.
